Why Gestalt Coaching

Gestalt coaching defies, in my view, some of the more “traditional” views of coaching. In Gestalt coaching, you may “direct” the coachee, interrupt the coachee, share your thoughts, feelings, sensations, images, or disclose information. This coach’s use of self is an essential part of the coach-coachee relationship, as long as it is done in the service of the coachee! It is also an approach that encourages the coach’s use of intuition, resonance, and creativity.

10 Practice Lab sessions. Up to 20 hours of practice!

Overall learning outcome: 

  • A deeper understanding of what it means to “be” a coach vs. “doing” coaching, having explored and practiced aspects of use of self as a coach, through a Gestalt coaching lens.
  • A practical, experiential experience and practice of a specific Gestalt skill and way of being, across each of the 10 lab sessions.
  • Gain a sense of community, having exchanged with and learned from fellow participants.

My goal is to make each lab session as experiential as possible, so that you may, if you wish, apply those skills with your own clients, and witness the difference it makes for them and your own personal development as a coach. 

I offer 10 practice labs, 2 hours each:

Every lab session has a specific Gestalt theme and aspect of use of self, which will act as the spring board for exploration, experimentation, and practice.

  • Lab 1 is a foundation lab session and a pre-requisite to attending any of the other lab modules.
    • Lab 1: Awareness
  • Labs 2-9 can be booked individually, depending on your interest and availability.
    • Lab 2: Exaggeration & Repetition
    • Lab 3: Perceptual resonance
    • Lab 4: Cognitive resonance
    • Lab 5: Somatic resonance
    • Lab 6: Levels of intensity
    • Lab 7: Projections & Creative experimentation
    • Lab 8: Polarities (lab 7 as a pre-requisite)
    • Lab 9: Empty chair (lab 7 as a pre-requisite)
  • Lab 10 can only be booked if you have attended all previous 9 labs and brings all of your learning across all 9 labs together for a final 120 min. pure practice. This lab session is complimentary for those participants who booked all 9 lab sessions in advance.
    • Lab 10: Bringing it all together!

    In these labs,

    • You will experience, experiment, practice, and exchange around Gestalt Coaching principles and ways of being as a coach. 
    • They might include short inputs, demonstrations, personal experimentation, practice rounds in pairs or triads incl. feedback,and facilitated discussions.
    • We meet for 2 hours each time, working with those topics, questions, or “Gestalt” that are present in the room.

    Lab 1 – Awareness

    • This ia a foundation lab session and a pre-requisite to attending any of the other lab modules. In this lab,
      • we introduce the term “Gestalt”, and explore the meaning of awareness from a Gestalt perspective, and why it is important;
      • we contract around our learning space;
      • you experience awareness through an exercise, and explore the paradox of change.

    Lab 2 – Exaggeration & Repetition

    •  In this lab, you will experiment with and practice the use of exaggeration (of gestures, posture, etc.) and repetition (of words, sounds, sentences, gestures, etc.) to expand the client’s awareness.
    • Pre-requisite: You must have attended Lab 1 – Awareness to book this session.

    Lab 3 – Perceptual resonance

    •  In this lab, you will experiment with and practice perceptual resonance (i.e. sharing what you notice through your 5 senses), and how you can use it impactfully as a coach to enhance the client’s awareness.
    • Pre-requisite: You must have attended Lab 1 – Awareness to book this session.

    Lab 4 – Cognitive resonance

    •  In this lab, you will experiment with and practice cognitive resonance (i.e. sharing what you think), and how you can use it impactfully as a coach to enhance the client’s awareness.
    • Pre-requisite: You must have attended Lab 1 – Awareness to book this session.

    Lab 5 – Somatic resonance

    •  In this lab, you will experiment with and practice somatic resonance (i.e. sharing what you feel emotionally or physically), and how you can use it impactfully as a coach to enhance the client’s awareness.
    • Pre-requisite: You must have attended Lab 1 – Awareness to book this session.

    Lab 6 – Levels of intensity

    •  In this lab, you will experiment with and practice the 4 levels of intensity when exploring the client’s story, and how you can use it impactfully as a coach to enhance the client’s awareness.
    • Pre-requisite: You must have attended Lab 1 – Awareness to book this session.

    Lab 7 – Projections & Creative experimentation

    •  In this lab, we introduce the concept of projections and creative experimentation, and you experiment with and practice it with the help of objects and/or images, and how you can use it impactfully as a coach to enhance the client’s awareness.
    • Pre-requisite: You must have attended Lab 1 – Awareness to book this session.

      Lab 8 – Polarities

      •  In this lab, you will experiment with and practice how you can use projections and experimentation to explore polarities and the range within a client’s dilemna. Purpose, as always, is to impactfully enhance the client’s awareness.
      • Pre-requisites: You must have attended Lab 1 – Awareness AND Lab 7 –  Projections & Creative experimentation to book this session.
      • Please make sure you have booked/attended Lab 1 – Awareness session before booking this one.

        Lab 9 – Empty chair

        • In this lab, we introduce the concept of the empty chair, and you experiment with and practice how you can use it impactfully as a coach to enhance the client’s awareness, especially in situations of interpersonal conflict.
        • Pre-requisites: You must have attended Lab 1 – Awareness AND Lab 7 –  Projections & Creative experimentation to book this session.

        Lab 10 – Bringing it all together

        • This session brings all of your learning across all 9 labs together for a final 120 min. of pure practice.
        • Pre-requisite: Only participants who have attended all 9 labs may book this session.

        I am a proud member of the Association for Coaching (AC) CPD Scheme.

        As such, you will receive a certificate confirming your participation and the number of hours completed, which you can submit to the AC as proof for Continuous Professional Development (CPD). You may also submit it as proof for Resource Development Continuing Coach Education (CCE) units (for e.g. ICF).

        Cancellation by particpant

        Participants may cancel their booking and have fees paid returned. Participants seeking to cancel their booking, should email their request to dina@agapeheartandsoul.com.

        The amount of fees returned shall depend on when notice of cancellation is received.

        Cancellations received:

        • more than 60 days in advance of the start of the session – no fees retained
        • 30 to 60 days in advance of the start of the session – 25% fees retained
        • 15 to 29 days in advance of the start of the session – 50% fees retained
        • 14 to 0 days in advance of the start of the session – 100% fees retained

        Inability to attend a pre-booked and paid for session due to unforeseen circumstances constitutes cancellation and the above conditions will apply.

        Exceptions, as well as complimentary rebookings on alternative programmes in the case of a missed lab session, will be handled on an individual basis at the discretion of the Coach.

        Cancellation by service provider (Coach)

        In the event of unforseen circumstances (such as illness, accident, bereavement, etc.), or in case a lab session does not meet the minimum number of 4 participants, the Coach reserves the right to cancel lab sessions, including at short notice.

        The Coach will try her best to inform the participants as soon as such circumstances are known, and will do her utmost to re-book participants on an alternative session. Should this not be possible, or should the participant prefer to be fully reimbursed, 100% of the fees received will be reimbursed.

        Programme Satisfaction Guarantee

        • If you are unhappy with the programme, and feel that it does not meet the description given on the website or event flyer, AND
        • if you notify me by the end of the first lab session,
        • a discretionary refund may be given to you for the training event, which may be a partial refund or a full refund of the price paid for the event, depending on the reasons cited.

        My intention is to enable all who want to, to be able to benefit from my coaching services, regardless of financial situation, whilst also making it sustainable for me to offer my services.         • Many organisations are encouraging their leaders and people managers to act as coaches for their team members, and to attend coaching training programmes. However, few of these programmes tackle the inherent tensions and polarities that arise for leaders who try to “be a coach”.
